Tips to use a Jumper Cable

Imagine this scenario: you’ve been at work all day, you’re thinking about getting home to a hot dinner or going out for a while to a nice place. When you finally turn the key to start your car, the battery is dead. You think, and now what

Well if you are predictive, (and we want to believe that you are) you will surely carry a complete assistance kit where yes, you will find those precious Jumper Cables that will save your life, now you only have to call a colleague who will “lend” you his car for a while and take the following steps:

The first thing you should do is park the vehicle that has battery along with the one that has the dead battery and for your safety, turn off the engine of both.

Open the hood, locate the battery and If the batteries are covered by plastic hoods, remove the hoods so the battery posts are exposed.

Find the positive and negative terminals of the batteries, the positive ones are usually red, but to make sure better, look closely at the + and – signs to verify the polarity.

Get out your jumper cables and connect one of the red clamps to the positive (+) post of the dead battery. Make sure that the clamp is firmly connected. Clamp the matching end of the same cable to the positive (+) post on the working battery.

Connect the negative (black) jumper wire to the negative donor car battery terminal. Connect the other end of the negative wire to a clean, unpainted piece of metal in the engine compartment of the donor car. Ideally, a large screw or crest metal works well (this serves as your ground).

1.    Start the functioning car’s engine first and let it idle for a few minutes.

2.    Start the dead car’s engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

3.    If the dead car starts without any issues, carefully disconnect the black clamp from its battery first. Then disconnect the black clamp from the other car.

4.    Finally, remove the red clamp from the good car’s battery and then from the once-dead battery.

It is important that you keep a constant check of your vehicle to avoid this type of situation, and that you always have the right implements at hand to always be one step ahead of any inconvenience. You can check here which of our kits suits you best according to your needs and be always ready!
